Marcelo S. Alencar

Marcelo Sampaio de Alencar received his bachelor‘s degree in Electrical Engineering from Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), Brazil in 1980; his master’s degree from Federal University of Paraiba (UFPB), Brazil in 1988; and his PhD from the University of Waterloo, Canada in 1993. He is currently emeritus member of the Brazilian Telecommunications Society (SBrT), IEEE senior member, chair professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Federal University of Campina Grande, Brazil. He is founder and president of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Communications (Iecom), and has been awarded several scholarships and grants including three scholarships and several research grants from the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Research (CNPq), two grants from the IEEE Foundation, a scholarship from the University of Waterloo, a scholarship from the Federal University of Paraiba, and many others. He has published over 350 engineering and scientific papers and 15 books.
